Visit County Durham
Durham City sparkles with cafés, galleries, wonderful hotels and unique, one-off shops, which all offer authentic experiences and hospitality that are unique to County Durham. So whether you would like to trek across the vast moors and valleys of Teesdale and Weardale, or visit majestic castles, living museums, and bustling market towns and villages, visit County Durham and come and share it all with us.

Durham Tourism
Durham is a compact city yet offers a wide range of facilities. A wide range of shops and restaurants co-exist happily with the Victorian Market. Much of Durham’s shopping area is closed to traffic, making for a more relaxed atmosphere. Take time to sit in the cobbled Market Place and enjoy some of the street entertainment, particularly during July and August. The monthly Farmers’ Market is a welcome new addition to the events calendar. Here you will find fresh local specialities to take back home. In the Spring and Summer, stunning floral displays adorn the City for which Durham regularly wins prizes.

About Britain - Durham
Durham City - The jewel in the county's crown! Compact enough to explore on foot but so exceptional that its magnificent Norman Castle and Cathedral are a World Heritage Site. For over nine centuries the Castle and Cathedral have dominated the town from their dramatic location high above the River Wear. The massive Cathedral is widely acclaimed as one of the world's finest buildings. The original rib vaulted church, an architectural innovation of great importance, took 40 years to build and was completed in 1133. Since then the Cathedral and St. Cuthbert's shrine have attracted pilgrims and travellers from all over the world.

Bath Great Ideas
Conquer all that Durham has to offer, night or day, by wandering its medieval streets. There’s only one way to arrive in this city and that’s by train. Should you arrive by car, drive straight to the train station and see what you’ve missed. The vast, soaring bulk of the Norman cathedral and the crenellated, much-buttressed sprawl of the castle dominate the skyline like giant thrones on a dais.
